CHALLENGES
Gaps in Design System
Ineffective Landing Page Design
Disconnect Between Concept and Execution
Disconnect Between Concept and Execution
Ideas and design features were discussed within the team but were never executed or developed into actionable plans, creating a gap between the website's design concept and actual execution.
Gaps in Design System
The project was disrupted when members of the design team unexpectedly quit, leaving work incomplete and lacking proper documentation. This disruption created gaps in the design system and required significant effort to rebuild continuity and realign the project’s visual direction.
Ineffective Landing Page Design
User testing revealed that the landing page was not generating sufficient engagement. Participants struggled to quickly access information, and the visual design failed to draw attention to important elements. Additionally, the calls to action lacked clarity and prominence, making it difficult for users to know what steps to take next.

1
Interviews
Conducted interviews with the Boon team to identify UI and navigation issues based on user feedback. Discussions centered on engagement rates, key areas of confusion, and obstacles affecting the overall usability of the website.
2
Market Research
Explored how users interact with donation and volunteering platforms to identify strengths and shortcomings in navigation and interface design. This research helped refine Boon’s core flows for smoother user interaction.
3
Wireframing
Created wireframes to map out key user flows focusing on simplifying navigation, improving content hierarchy, and highlighting primary actions like donating, volunteering, and listing causes.
4
Prototyping
Focused prototyping efforts on validating critical touchpoints such as landing page navigation, listing and volunteering forms, and CTA button placements. This ensured the interface properly addressed user pain points before moving into development.

CRO-Focused Landing Page
To address engagement issues on the landing page, a CRO-focused redesign was carried out with an emphasis on user intent. The new homepage was strategically structured to highlight the platform’s three primary user goals: listing a cause, donating, or volunteering. Each path was clearly defined with strong visual cues, concise messaging, and purpose driven calls to action that guided users without confusion.
User Dashboards
Implemented a user dashboard to give organizers full control over their activity on the platform. From a single interface, users can create and manage fundraisers or volunteer listings and track the amount of funds raised. This allows users to make adjustments easily and better evaluate the performance of their campaigns.
Tiered Listing Structure
A tiered listing structure was introduced to reflect the differing needs and capacities of users. NGOs, often operating at a larger scale with broader initiatives, are permitted to request higher fundraising amounts. In contrast, individual users are assigned limits that align with personal or community based efforts. This distinction adds a layer of financial transparency and ensures the platform supports a wide range of causes without compromising trust.
Built in Vetting Process
To ensure the credibility of listed causes and protect users from fraudulent activity, a structured vetting process was integrated into the platform’s registration flow. Both individuals and NGOs must submit identifying information and relevant documentation to be reviewed before gaining the ability to post fundraisers or volunteer opportunities.
Structured Volunteer Recruitment
To launch volunteer listings, organizers begin by outlining clear project goals, time commitments, and any specific skills or qualifications required. Applicants then complete a detailed questionnaire during the application process, providing the necessary information for evaluation. Project organizers review submissions and vet each candidate before confirming participation. This structured approach ensures a more aligned and productive experience for both listers and volunteers.
